Here's a background on the poem below: I wrote this poem to my daughter, when my dear friend, LeRoy, was passing from cancer. At the time, she lived with her dad in another state. She was so young and really couldn't grasp fully what was going on because LeRoy wanted to pass away at home. So, I asked her dad if he could take our daughter because LeRoy didn't want her to see him in the state of diminishing health that he was experiencing and eventually, his demise. She was so young at the time and he just didn't think it was right.
Now, if I was as creative as my daughter is, I would have created a full blown card; however, I don't possess that talent so she had to settle for a poem. Here it is, written in August 1994, LeRoy passed on September 1, 1994.
You
(A Tribute to Elizabeth)
I heard of the birth of a newborn child
and I thought of you.
I saw two children playing in a sandbox
and I thought of you.
I saw a young girl doing cartwheels in the park
and I thought of you
I saw the sky shining lovely and blue
the sun rays over the horizon
I heard the birds sing
the children laughing
saw the traffic bustling
listened to some music
went to bed
woke up...
In every minute, of every day
my heart and thoughts go to you!
I'm so proud to be your mom...Keep up the good work!
Like I said, I should be writing greeting cards, ha ha.
Please let me know what you think!
